Slow Cooker BBQ Brisket Tips
If you have followed us at all, then you know that we love our meats. And as a mom of 6, I want convenience, ease, and taste.
We order a lot of our meat delivered to our door from Omaha Steaks. It’s super convenient for me since I don’t have to go to the store, it’s portioned and packaged for easy meals, and it’s always delicious (which I can’t say the same from our local discount grocery).
We recently ordered an Omaha Steaks brisket because it’s the perfect cut of meat for a slow cooker meal.
But, yes, you can totally overcook a brisket.
My brisket slow cooker tip is to make sure you cook it on low heat for 8 hours. If you cook a brisket on high it will likely turn out tough. And that’s a big bummer after all that wait.
Slow Cooker BBQ Brisket Rub:
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons paprika
BBQ Brisket Rub Instructions:
- Toss the BBQ Brisket Rub ingredients in a bowl. Rub the mixture all over the brisket (I just use my hands). Since this is a rub and not a brine, you can do this right before cooking.
BBQ Brisket Slow Cooker Ingredients:
- 2 pounds beef brisket (rubbed)
- 1 cup water
- 1 (18 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce
BBQ Brisket Slow Cooker Instructions:
- Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the rubbed brisket over the water.
- Finally, add a drizzle of BBQ sauce over the top of the brisket. Cover with the lid and cook on low heat for 8 hours.
- When done, remove the brisket carefully to a large platter or cutting board.
- Remove the fat from the bottom of the brisket and discard. It should easily peel off. Slice or shred brisket.
How to Make BBQ Brisket Nachos:
- Shred the brisket
- Top tortilla chips with the brisket.
- Add corn, chopped red onion, shredded cheese (Colby Jack, Cheddar, or any Mexican blend), pico de gallo or salsa, chopped fresh cilantro, chopped avocado, and sour cream.
Final Thoughts on BBQ Brisket Slow Cooker Meals
I hope you enjoy these BBQ brisket nachos as much as my kiddos.
I’ve given you some great options for using this BBQ brisket slow cooker recipe. And I simply love that, adapting one item to several meals.
Having options allows us the flexibility to work with the groceries on hand. And if I purchase a few briskets when they are on sale, I can make different meals as we go.
For a bonus tip, using a brisket rub can make a lesser quality cut of meat taste way better, so don’t skip this step.

Pro-tip: Slice the brisket thinly across the grain. And serve it with extra BBQ Sauce. You could serve this tender brisket on rolls with coleslaw as sliders, as a main dish with sides, or our favorite shredded on nachos!
