The older I get the more I realize how I have to be intentional with my time and I have to create healthy boundaries and hold myself to them. As adults we often find ourselves in a number of roles; for me, it is mother, wife, daughter, entrepreneur, author, life coach, pastor, the list goes on. With all of the roles come endless to-do lists, emails, text messages, projects — all these things that are fighting for our time, for our attention.
Our lives are full, and it’s our job to make sure that they are balanced.

I’ll be honest being an entrepreneur, the work day doesn’t end at 5pm or on Friday. There is no clocking out unless I am intentional, plan for it and then force myself to take a break. I’m sure that sounds funny to some of you, but as someone who is self employed, who is responsible for employing others, it’s often hard to take your foot off of the accelerator for fear that you will lose momentum or you’ll miss out on an opportunity.
That being said, I am not one that believes we should do things out of fear, I believe the healthier and more grounded I am as an individual, the better my home life will be and the better my business will be. So that means I have to set time aside to take care of myself.
Now I’m going to put a disclaimer in here: the majority of my free time and travels are spent with my family. They are my favorite people and I genuinely enjoy doing things when we are all together. I love going on adventures with my kids and seeing them experience new places and things. Planning time where we can all be together away from the routines and obligations is a wonderful way to connect and grow.
But as a mom, I am also a big believer in making time for yourself every once in a while outside of the roles of wife and momma. One of the ways you can do that is by taking a couple days away with your girlfriends, a mini-vacation where you can just be.
So when that time comes and you are planning your getaway here are our Top 5 Best Places in Florida for your Next Girls Trip. (Most of the places I am going to share in this post are places I’ve visited with my kids and while they were perfect for the whole family, I also think that they would be amazing locations for a girls’ weekend away.)
1. Anna Maria Island
If you are looking for some time to just lay in the sun and read a book you and your girls should consider one of Florida’s most beautiful beach towns, Anna Maria Island is the perfect place for a low-key Florida getaway. I’ve shared all of our favorite food spots and sightseeing suggestions in this post.

2. Weeki Wachee
If your friends are fans of kayaking and canoeing, Weeki Wachee Springs would be a great option. The natural springs are crystal clear, warm, and perfect for a calm day on the water. A bonus is that you will often see the local wildlife such as turtles, deer, eagles, and manatees. For more details about Weeki Wachee check out my post here.
“Weeki Wachee” was named by the Seminole Indians. It means “little spring” or “winding river.” The spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh 74-degree water bubbles up out of subterranean caverns.

3. Naples
Avoid the crowds and enjoy one of Florida’s other gems. Stay at a beachside resort or luxury hotel for a more pampered Florida getaway. If you and your girlfriends are foodies, Naples is a wonderful city to plan a food tour with so many restaurants boasting fresh, locally sourced ingredients. In this post I tell you about all of the amazing food, beauty, and experiences you don’t want to miss in Naples.
Naples was named America’s Best Beach by the Travel Channel. In fact, the beaches of Naples have been mentioned in several top travel magazines as some of the best destination beaches in the country.

4. Lake County
Lake County is a great Florida getaway location because it is close to everything, when it comes to planning a trip for people with varied interests Lake County would be an amazing option because there is something for everyone.
If your group is looking for outdoor activities there are lots of opportunities for paddling, hiking, birding, horseback riding, fishing, swimming, seaplane rides, and more! If you are looking for more laid-back activities, they also have a Winery and Vineyard and some great places to stroll around downtown. Check out this post for links to my favorite places to eat and explore in Lake County.
Home to over 1,000 pristine lakes and rivers, it’s obvious how Lake County got its name. But beyond the bountiful lakes swimming with fish is a landscape found nowhere else in Florida. Rolling hills and stunning vistas comprise Lake County’s unique terrain, leading up to the highest point in peninsular Florida, Sugarloaf Mountain.
