When it comes to cleaning your floors, you don’t need expensive cleaners and harsh chemicals to get the job done… and to get it done well. Many of the household cleaners around (and that we’ve been so used to using) are not only toxic and carcinogenic to us, but they’re taking a toll on the environment. I think you probably already have what you need in your kitchen to really get a good clean. Add to that a few essential oils for even greater cleaning power and to leave that clean, fresh aroma in the air. It’s healthy, non-toxic, frugal and best of all, it smells great!
I recently shared a few tips for “Faking a Clean Home” which essentially were ways to quickly get the big stuff done and out of the way, so that you won’t quite notice the rest… but one of the things that really gets to me if left alone for too long is a dirty floor. I was chatting with a friend of mine not too long ago, who also happens to own a professional cleaning business, and she said that they had tried every kind of mop out there and found that none compare to using a spin mop. Hands down, the best. And who doesn’t want the best?!
So I found the O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop & Bucket System and decided to use one of my favorite new floor cleaning solutions so that I could keep both the grime and the chemicals off of our floor.
I added some vinegar and baking soda into my water for a tougher clean, and my kids love the way it bubbles up or “explodes” in the bucket, and then dropped in whatever essential oils I was feeling at the time, which was Peppermint + Grapefruit + Wild Orange + Lemon. The beauty of using essential oils on your floors is that you don’t have to worry about finding just the right oil or using a specific oil on a specific surface. Some great combinations are Lavender + Lemon, a citrus blend containing Lemon + Grapefruit + Lemongrass + Wild Orange, a minty blend of Peppermint + Wild Orange, a spicy blend by using Clove + Cinnamon + Lemon. You can mix and match your favorite scents and oils to make this recipe or use one single oil.
Multi-Purpose Floor Cleaning Solution
Great for tile, hardwood, linoleum, ceramic, laminate, or vinyl.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- 15 drops of essential oils
- One bucket of hot water
- Add 1/4 cup of baking soda for especially dirty floor to create a heavy duty cleaner
DIRECTIONS:
- Put all the ingredients in a bucket and use to mop the floors.
- Let air dry (no need to rinse!) and you’re good to go.
The mop is simple to use and has a foot pedal to easily wring out the mop head, thus the name, so that you’re not just pushing a bunch of water around your floor but actually cleaning it. I can hold my littlest in one arm while mopping, which pretty much always happens… or he can even help (which pretty much as soon as he get’s down from my arms!) When you’re done, simply let the floor air dry, toss the mop head in the washing machine and you are good to go. No need to rinse and no nasty or harmful chemicals left behind, just a refreshing scent. And a plus, you can find this anywhere… ours is from Walmart in the cleaning aisle.
The O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop & Bucket System has a built in wringer activated by a high quality foot pedal allowing you to control the level of moisture. Cleaning your floors has never been this much fun. The built in splash guard prevents overspray onto surrounding floors and walls, and the triangular mop head reaches into corners with deep cleaning microfiber strands to attract dirt and grime. The head is washable, and refills are also available. The telescoping handle extends to 48 inches and can collapse for easy storage. EasyWring Spin Mop & Bucket System is proudly assembled in the USA. Visit ocedar.com to learn more, or like them on Facebook.
Happy floor cleaning friends… 😉

How clever is that?! I need to get one to try. Mopping is one of my least favorite activities, but that actually looks like it would be easy and almost fun to use.

Haha, well so far my kids ask to use it all the time… so that helps!! 🙂 It is so much easier though, for sure!

That’s a simple recipe. – trying that soon! I love anything with lavender so I think lavender and lemon will be the way to go! And I think that mop may be the bomb-dot-com. Oh, the things I’ve started to find “cool” once owning a house/becoming a mom! haha
