Welcome to our bedroom! This is easily one of my favorite rooms in our house. It’s super chill, gives off a somewhat clean and modern vibe, and yet it’s still comfy enough to light a couple of candles and get cozy at the end of a long day and unwind.
In this house we had a few criteria to work with when planning this space… first off, we’re renters, so we didn’t want to do anything too permanent. Lucky for us the paint and carpet was already pretty neutral, so we were able to leave the shell of the room alone and completed this space all with “temporary” decor, meaning everything we did will be able to move with us. And it’s a good thing too, because it turns out, we’re going to be starting over in a new space next month! I guess we pulled this room tour together just in time right?
As for our second criterion, we decided to share this room with our newborn instead of creating a whole new nursery for him, since our littles always ended up sleeping in our room for almost the first year anyway, and for us, this bedroom configuration worked best for our family. So our room became our Master Bedroom + Nursery Nook. We didn’t want the room to feel too “baby” and yet we didn’t want to have a space without any whimsy for our littlest, so finding a good balance was key for me.

OUR MASTER BEDROOM & NURSERY NOOK
While working off of the Inspiration Board I created when dreaming up the room, we kept it pretty close to the design, but changed a few things… like opting for three small portable ottomans at the end of the bed instead of one bench. This makes it easy for our kids to move each bench around the room when we read stories or if they want to help out at the changing table, and is just a better fit to stay flexible with our growing family. We also made a few changes to keep the room very budget friendly and made substitutions for a few items, and as you can see went without a classic bedding set on our bed and instead utilize a mix of different blankets and pillows (and my hospital bag pillow cases), but especially in our climate, it’s working well.
One thing I’m looking forward to in our new place is the increased natural light in our master bedroom, our current room has the tendency to feel like a cave at times… thus the darker photo above. See, no window in that entire nursery nook area equals no natural light in that corner, though it has given us ample wall space to work with.
The adorable knit bird collection and the yellow/white chevron blanket are from Bellus Threads. For the mobile, I just hung the bird collection pieces from a stick the kid’s gathered from the yard and I wrapped it in yarn for a little extra punch of color.
I keep some of my favorite candles from Anthropologie close, along with this amazing hand creme and my newest lip balm favorite from a recent Birchbox arrival near for the nighttime chap.
One of the not-so-“baby” pieces in the room is this vintage body form that we picked up at a garage sale last year and I love having it grace our space… right now it’s holding many of my necklaces.
We wanted a way to hang a few of Skylar’s outfits in a cute and decorative way in the room, and so my husband put together this solution easily with a shelf from Ikea and a $4 rail! It’s one of my favorite quick and easy DIY projects in the room… and comes in at under $20.

Thank you so much for letting me show you around our master bedroom and nursery nook! If you’re curious about anything else in this space, just leave a comment.
And now, it’s time for me to pack up this room and see how it all works in another space.

Thanks Maddie! The baskets are also from Ikea… and I love them as well! They are soft, and yet sturdy enough to stand up on their own.

love it! where is the changing table white lamp from?
Tabitha Laboy says
I believe the lamp was from Babies R Us… years ago as it was in my daughters nursery when we was born, seven years ago! But the white lamp shade is a recent purchase from Ikea.
