In today’s episode we are talking about comfort zones – that cozy space where familiarity reigns supreme but where growth stagnates. In truth, comfort zones are not fully about comfort; they’re actually driven by fear, and it’s by getting over this fear and embracing being uncomfortable that you can start to take risks, fulfil your potential, experience true growth and start achieving the success you’ve been dreaming of.
In this episode, we’ll be exploring how to know if you’re trapped in your comfort zone (including some questions you can ask yourself to help identify this), some actionable steps to break out of this, and research-based statistics to help inspire you to step out of your comfort zone today and embrace the unknown.
So if you’ve been feeling unchallenged and like life’s feeling a little predictable and stagnant lately, then dive right in because this episode is for you.

In this episode, I discuss:
- The definition of “comfort zone” as being a psychological state in which one feels safe, comfortable and unchallenged, and it becomes the default for so many of us because our brains are wired to keep us safe and to keep us in a little bubble of what feels familiar and comfortable, but comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean good, and it can often leave us feeling bored and unfulfilled..
- Questions you can ask yourself to help identify if you are stuck in your comfort zone, including; Are you content with you current situation? Are you feeling a sense of restlessness or a desire for change? What goals or dreams have you put on hold because they require stepping out of your comfort zone?
- My own experiences when I’ve let the fear of moving out of my comfort zone stop me from actually moving forward and progressing, and how our minds often fill in the gaps in our knowledge with a negative story which fuels the fear and stops us from striving for our goals and stepping out of our comfort zone.
- How not all fear is bad or wrong – it’s totally natural to have a fear response when you’re doing something for the first time, but this doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
- How to reframe discomfort as an opportunity for growth, rather than being a threat to my security, and how the first step is to figure out where you really are at the moment and identifying the direction you want to be going in.
- The importance of celebrating failure because the fear of failure is so often what is actually keeping us stuck – Denzel Washington once said, “do you have the guts to fail”? To get something you’ve never had, you have to do something you ever did. I also share how we are nurturing this mindset within our family!
